You have to pay $199 for a VESA mount, or $999 for the Pro Stand. What is truly insane though, is that the monitor doesn't even come with a stand, at all. Though most are of questionable humorous value, one Redditor stepped up to defend Apple's pricing, noting that it's par for the course in the world of Enterprise budgets where these things pay for themselves quickly and companies are used to paying exorbitant costs for add-ons. Even the Mac-loving subreddit of /r/Mac began posting parody memes, just like every other tech-loving site on the Internet. Still, the only features it is promoting with the Pro Stand is that it offers tilt and swivel, like every other monitor stand in existence, and it has a balancing system that lets you adjust it with a fingertip. Even The Verge got snarky, writing, "Apple’s $1,000 Pro Display XDR stand is the most expensive dongle ever." I'm sure from Apple's perspective, and market research, high-end monitors like this go into editing bays instead of onto a desk, and as Apple highlighted in its keynote, having it be easily removable from a stand (whether the Pro Stand or VESA mount) does make it easier to take into the field. Engadget wrote, "A $999 monitor stand is everything wrong with Apple today." The author summarizing the stand as a "raw deal." Gizmodo sniped, "How Ridiculous Is Apple's $1,000 Monitor Stand, Really?" Even the Mac faithful at 9to5Mac declared, "Apple’s $1000 monitor stand is a massive (and unnecessary) PR fail," arguing given the price of the computer when configured they should have just added $1,000 to the cost, which nobody would have really objected to.
Sure it looks nice like any Apple product, but come on. $999 for a simple stand is truly peak Apple, and the Internet wasn't happy about it.
